Iraq Condemns Damascus Bombings as Security Fears Rise

Iraq condemned the bombings in Damascus and warned against threats to Syria’s stability. Baghdad said the attacks targeted civilians and harmed public security. The Foreign Ministry called the explosions criminal acts. It also rejected terrorism, extremism, and violence in all forms.

Iraq condemns Damascus blasts as Syria faces new security pressure in its capital. The explosions hit central Damascus and injured several people. Officials said the blasts also injured police officers. Therefore, Baghdad urged firm action against violence.

Syrian authorities said two explosive devices caused the blasts in the capital. One device sat inside a parked vehicle. Another device lay near a trash container close to a major hotel. As a result, security forces moved quickly around the area.

Moreover, the attack happened during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Syria. He continued his meetings after the explosions. Syrian officials also continued their security response in the capital. No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Iraq condemns Damascus blasts because Baghdad views Syrian stability as vital. Iraq shares security concerns with Syria across their long border. Therefore, any major violence in Damascus can raise concern in Baghdad. Iraqi officials often link Syria’s security to Iraq’s security.

In addition, Iraq stressed that attacks on civilians never carry justification. The Foreign Ministry said violent groups aim to weaken security and spread fear. Baghdad also called for rejecting extremist methods. It said countries must protect civilians from such attacks.

The Damascus blasts also followed another deadly attack in the city. That earlier violence raised new fears among residents. Consequently, Syrian officials face pressure to strengthen security. The capital now carries fresh concern after repeated incidents.

Meanwhile, Iraq and Syria have increased diplomatic contact under Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein visited Damascus for talks with Syrian officials. Both sides discussed security, cooperation, and economic ties. They also reviewed wider regional challenges.

Furthermore, Baghdad has expressed interest in strengthening its coordination with Damascus. Iraq wants stable borders and fewer militant threats. Syria also needs regional support as it works to improve security. As a result, both governments continue to hold talks.

Iraq condemns Damascus blasts as part of its wider anti-terror message. Baghdad has repeatedly rejected violence against civilians. It has also supported regional cooperation against armed groups. This position reflects Iraq’s own experience with terrorism.

The attack also placed Damascus under wider international attention. Macron’s presence gave the blasts a stronger diplomatic impact. However, Syrian authorities moved to contain the situation quickly. They also continued their investigation into the explosions.

In the end, Iraq’s response showed concern for both Syria and the region. Baghdad wants calm in Damascus and stronger cooperation with its neighbor. It also wants governments to confront violent networks together. The statement sent a clear message against attacks on civilians.
