Iraq Approves National Mobile Telecommunications Company to Boost 5G Network

Baghdad, Iraq – Iraq has recently approved the creation of the National Mobile Telecommunications Company (NMTC), a major step in enhancing the country’s telecommunications infrastructure. The government aims to develop the sector, maximize revenues, and align with its broader national goals through this initiative.

The NMTC will manage Iraq’s 5G national license in partnership with Vodafone Group, a leading telecommunications provider based in the UK. This collaboration is set to drive the deployment of advanced 5G technology across the country. By doing so, Iraq plans to significantly improve its connectivity and digital infrastructure.

This new entity will operate as a private limited company, established under Iraq’s Companies Law No. 21 of 1997 (as amended). The company will have equal ownership from three key stakeholders: Al-Salam General Company (representing the Ministry of Communications), the National Board of Pension (State Pension Fund), and the Trade Bank of Iraq (TBI). Each of these organizations will contribute one-third of the capital, ensuring a long-term investment in the country’s telecommunications future.

The Council of Ministers will closely monitor the company’s operations, particularly corporate decisions such as changes in shareholding, public offerings, and long-term strategies. These measures reflect the government’s commitment to overseeing the progress of the project.

Furthermore, the Minister of Communications will play a key role in supervising the implementation of the project. They will also be responsible for providing regular updates on the company’s progress and achievements.

The establishment of the National Mobile Telecommunications Company marks a turning point in Iraq’s efforts to modernize its telecommunications sector. With the focus on building a robust 5G network, Iraq is positioning itself as a competitive player in the digital age. This initiative will also foster greater economic opportunities and improve the quality of life for Iraqis.

In summary, the National Mobile Telecommunications Company is set to revolutionize Iraq’s digital landscape. With equal ownership from major institutions and strong government oversight, the company is poised for success in the country’s ambitious telecom strategy.
