Iraq Recovers 19 Billion Dinars in Iraqi Airways Corruption Investigation

Iraq anti-corruption campaign continues to gather momentum as authorities recover more stolen public funds and expand investigations into major financial crimes. On Tuesday, Iraqi judicial authorities announced the recovery of nearly 19 billion Iraqi dinars, worth about $14.5 million, in a case linked to the national carrier, Iraqi Airways.

The announcement marks another significant development in the government’s ongoing effort to combat corruption. Furthermore, investigators continue pursuing senior officials and recovering state assets across several high-profile cases.

According to the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq, the investigative court in Baghdad’s Rusafa district recovered the funds during an investigation into financial irregularities involving Iraqi Airways.

Judicial officials explained that investigators uncovered evidence of manipulated deposit records connected to company funds. As a result, authorities successfully traced and recovered the missing money during the investigation.

The latest recovery follows several major anti-corruption operations launched in recent days. Since Sunday, Iraqi authorities have seized millions of dollars and detained numerous senior officials as part of a nationwide crackdown.

Meanwhile, reports circulated earlier this week regarding the arrest of Manaf Abdel-Monem, the Director General of Iraqi Airways. Iraqi lawmaker Alaa al-Haidari claimed on social media that authorities arrested Abdel-Monem on embezzlement charges.

However, judicial authorities have not officially confirmed those reports. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials continue reviewing evidence related to the financial case.

The announcement also follows another major operation involving former Deputy Oil Minister Ali Maarij al-Bahadly. Investigators recently seized large amounts of cash and several properties connected to that case.

According to judicial officials, authorities confiscated approximately $11 million in cash. They also recovered an additional four billion Iraqi dinars, valued at roughly $3 million. Furthermore, investigators seized multiple real estate properties during the operation.

Officials linked those seizures to Operation Dawn, the government’s expanded campaign against corruption. Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi launched the operation earlier this week to strengthen accountability and recover stolen public assets.

Since its launch, the campaign has resulted in the arrest of at least 21 suspects. Investigators continue examining additional cases involving financial crimes and alleged abuse of public office.

Iraq anti-corruption campaign has also received strong backing from senior judicial officials. Prominent Iraqi judge Munir Haddad reaffirmed the government’s determination to prosecute those accused of stealing public funds.

He explained that prosecutors rely on the Iraqi Penal Code, anti-money laundering legislation, and laws protecting public property. These legal tools allow investigators to pursue corruption cases through several judicial channels.

Moreover, Haddad stressed that authorities remain focused on recovering every possible dinar belonging to the Iraqi state. He said the government and judiciary will continue pursuing individuals accused of corruption regardless of their positions.

The recent operations reflect a broader strategy to strengthen transparency and rebuild public confidence in state institutions. Iraqi officials believe stronger accountability can improve governance and protect national resources.

In addition, authorities continue coordinating investigations across multiple government agencies. Officials hope these efforts will uncover additional financial crimes and return more public money to the state treasury.

Observers view the latest recoveries as one of the largest anti-corruption efforts in recent years. The campaign also signals a tougher approach toward financial misconduct involving senior officials.

As investigations continue, authorities expect more arrests, additional asset recoveries, and further legal action. Iraq anti-corruption campaign remains central to the government’s effort to strengthen accountability, protect public funds, and restore confidence in state institutions.
