Iraq Achieves Global Recognition for Anti-Narcotics Efforts, Setting New Standards in Regional Cooperation

Iraq anti-narcotics global achievement has drawn widespread recognition as the country secures first place globally and regionally in counter-narcotics efforts. The Ministry of Interior announced this historic success, calling it a major milestone in Iraq’s ongoing transformation of its security and law enforcement strategies.

Lieutenant General Pilot Ahmed Al-Zarkani, Director General of the Narcotics Affairs Directorate, confirmed the news during the Arab Conference for Heads of Anti-Narcotics Agencies in Tunisia. He stated that Iraq earned the top honors for “Best Performance” and “Field Cooperation” awards, both presented by the General Secretariat of the Arab Interior Ministers Council.

Al-Zarkani praised the strong leadership of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari. Their direct supervision and field monitoring, he said, created an environment of accountability and innovation across the ministry. He noted that since early 2023, Iraq’s counter-drug strategy has shifted from conventional policing toward a more intelligence-driven model.

Furthermore, this new approach emphasizes coordination with neighboring countries and active information exchange with European security agencies. This integrated framework allows Iraq to respond faster, anticipate threats, and disrupt international smuggling networks before they reach national borders. As a result, Iraq now stands out as a regional model for modern anti-narcotics operations.

In addition, cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the Supreme Judicial Council has strengthened enforcement efforts. Together, they have expedited the prosecution of trafficking and smuggling cases, ensuring swift legal action against organized crime groups. This synergy between security and judicial institutions demonstrates the government’s serious commitment to tackling drug crimes on every front.

Moreover, Iraq’s improved intelligence capabilities and cross-border partnerships have gained attention from Arab and European observers. They view Iraq’s experience as a successful example of how strategic leadership and inter-agency collaboration can produce measurable results. Many regional experts believe these methods can inspire similar reforms in other countries facing complex narcotics challenges.

Lieutenant General Al-Zarkani reaffirmed that Iraq’s success did not occur overnight. He credited the dedication of field officers, investigators, and intelligence teams who consistently deliver results. He emphasized that constant evaluation, international cooperation, and advanced technology will remain key pillars of Iraq’s anti-drug policy moving forward.

Iraq anti-narcotics global achievement also represents a turning point for the nation’s image abroad. It signals Iraq’s readiness to participate actively in international security frameworks and share expertise with allies. By maintaining this momentum, Iraq aims to build lasting regional stability through law enforcement and preventive education.

In conclusion, Iraq anti-narcotics global achievement underscores the country’s determination to confront one of the world’s most dangerous threats with unity and innovation. Officials promise continued efforts to safeguard society, protect youth, and strengthen Iraq’s global reputation as a leader in counter-narcotics cooperation.
