Duhok Wins First Iraq Cup Title After Dramatic Final

Iraq Cup Final Victory took center stage as Duhok and Zakho battled in a historic all-Kurdish showdown at Al-Shaab Stadium. Thousands of fans filled the venue to witness a remarkable moment for football in both Iraq and Kurdistan.

This match marked the first time two Kurdish teams competed in the final of the national tournament. Duhok and Zakho, fierce rivals from the Badinan region, fought hard through 120 intense minutes. After a series of missed chances, the winner was decided by penalty kicks.

In the end, Duhok triumphed 5-3 in the shootout. This Iraq Cup Final Victory was historic, as it was Duhok’s first ever title and the first time any Kurdish club has lifted the Iraq Cup since its founding in 1948.

This was the 23rd meeting between the two teams. With this result, Duhok now leads the record with 8 wins, Zakho holds 2, and 16 ended in draws.

The final has wider implications. By securing the Iraq Cup Final Victory, Duhok qualifies for the AFC Champions League 2. Both finalists will also appear in next season’s Iraq Super Cup.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani congratulated both teams. He praised Duhok for securing the title and recognized Zakho’s strong performance. On Facebook, he posted warm messages to both clubs and wished them future success.

President Barzani also expressed hope that this success would inspire further growth of sports across Kurdistan and Iraq. The achievement of two Kurdish clubs reaching the final stage reflects growing competitiveness in the region.

While Duhok takes home the trophy, the real winner is Kurdish football. This Iraq Cup Final Victory united fans and showcased the strength of Kurdistan’s athletic spirit.This moment will be remembered for years to come, not only for the trophy but for what it symbolized. It represented pride, unity, and a bright future for Kurdish football.
