On Wednesday, Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani called for the Iraqi Parliament to approve the amendment to the general budget law without any alterations.
The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting at the government palace with the heads of parliamentary blocs, Speaker of the Parliament Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, and his deputies, Mohsen Ali Al-Mendlawi and Shakhwan Abdullah. The meeting focused on reviewing the progress of the government’s program and highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives that directly affect citizens’ lives, especially service and economic projects. It also emphasized the need for stronger cooperation between the legislative and executive branches to meet national development goals.
The statement emphasized that the federal budget law is crucial for fulfilling the government’s commitments, with the recent amendment discussed by the government aimed at addressing the cost of producing oil. This amendment, which was approved by the Cabinet in November 2023, was later confirmed by the government’s representative in Parliament. Al-Sudani reiterated that the Parliament should pass the amendment without any changes, in line with Iraq’s economic priorities and the government’s approved program.
The Speaker of the Parliament, along with his deputies and the heads of the parliamentary blocs, expressed their support for the government’s proposed amendment, stressing the importance of backing the government’s plans to serve the broader interests of the Iraqi people.
