Baghdad Afforestation Campaign to Plant 300,000 Trees

The Baghdad Municipality announced that it will begin its largest afforestation campaign on October 1. The campaign aims to plant more than 300,000 trees across the capital. This Baghdad afforestation campaign forms part of government efforts to expand green spaces and improve the urban environment.

Uday Al-Jandil, spokesperson for the Baghdad Municipality, confirmed that the trees will be distributed throughout the city. Moreover, the campaign includes perennial and heat-resistant trees such as Fisa, Acacia, Sidr, and Eucalyptus. These species were grown in the municipality’s own nurseries. Additionally, the city has prepared suitable locations, including public gardens and central areas. Officials also installed smart irrigation systems and walkways to support long-term tree survival.

Furthermore, Al-Jandil highlighted that the campaign goes far beyond beautification goals. It is a vital step to reduce air pollution, combat rising heat, and strengthen environmental health in Baghdad. Through these measures, officials aim to improve living conditions and enhance public well-being.

In addition, the Baghdad afforestation campaign encourages broad participation. Volunteers, students, and civil society groups will contribute to the planting process. This involvement fosters a sense of community and strengthens cooperation between residents and local authorities. Importantly, it also highlights the shared responsibility of protecting the capital’s environment.

Significantly, the campaign also supports Iraq’s national strategy against climate change. By planting hundreds of thousands of trees, Baghdad aligns with international sustainability efforts. It demonstrates how local initiatives can address global challenges.

Therefore, the Baghdad afforestation campaign carries major environmental and social value. It provides shade, lowers urban temperatures, and creates cleaner air for millions of residents. At the same time, it enhances the beauty of the city and supports healthier lifestyles.

Ultimately, this campaign illustrates the municipality’s commitment to transforming Baghdad into a greener and more sustainable capital. With widespread cooperation, the initiative can build a healthier and more resilient city for future generations.
