Baghdad Prepares to Host Arab Architecture Festival in October

Arab Architecture Festival Baghdad will take place this October, marking one of the most significant cultural events in Iraq’s modern history. Baghdad, already recognized as the Arab Capital of Tourism, is preparing to welcome architects, designers, and cultural leaders from across the region.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani will sponsor the event. He stressed that the festival represents more than a celebration of architecture. It also offers a vital platform to address urban challenges faced by developing cities. Furthermore, it highlights Iraq’s broader cultural and economic revival, presenting Baghdad as a city of renewed vitality.

The festival is organized in partnership with the Tamayouz Excellence Award Foundation, established in the United Kingdom in 2012. Over the past decade, Tamayouz has grown into a global initiative honoring exceptional Arab architects. Notably, the award was once chaired by the late Zaha Hadid, the world-renowned Iraqi-British architect who inspired generations.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister al-Sudani held a preparatory meeting with Ahmed al-Malak, head of the Tamayouz Foundation. They were joined by Iraqi architect Manhal al-Habboubi and Jordanian architect Osaid Al-Aytan. Discussions focused on finalizing logistical arrangements, ensuring smooth organization, and promoting Baghdad as a hub of cultural and urban innovation.

Arab Architecture Festival Baghdad carries immense symbolic importance. For Iraq, it signals a turning point, showing how cultural diplomacy can elevate national identity. For participants, it provides a platform to exchange ideas, present innovations, and explore solutions to the challenges of modern urbanization.

The event also reflects Iraq’s determination to reconnect with the global architectural community. By hosting such a gathering, Iraq demonstrates both its resilience and ambition to position Baghdad as a center of creativity. Arab Architecture Festival Baghdad therefore promises not only to celebrate architectural achievements but also to shape future visions for cities across the Arab world.

Ultimately, the festival reflects Iraq’s vision of combining heritage with innovation. By gathering global architects, Baghdad strengthens its role as a cultural capital and inspires sustainable urban development across the Arab world.
