Iraq Investigates Drone Strikes on Kurdistan Oil Infrastructure

Iraq investigates drone strikes that recently hit vital oil sites in the Kurdistan Region, causing serious infrastructure damage and security concerns.

On Tuesday, the Iraqi Parliament officially launched a full investigation into the attacks. The move follows repeated assaults on major oil fields. Deputy Parliament Speaker Shakhawan Abdullah described the strikes as a direct threat to regional stability and national energy security.

He urged the federal government to boost intelligence coordination and close security gaps that allowed these violations to happen. Abdullah also called for an immediate review by the Security and Defense Committee. He demanded faster responses to protect oil assets.

Moreover, he emphasized the need to identify those responsible without delay. According to him, action must match the seriousness of the threat. The attacks targeted oil sites in Erbil and Duhok, including the Khurmala and Sarsang fields. These facilities are crucial to Iraq’s energy sector.

Earlier that day, the Kurdistan Region Presidency condemned the strikes in strong terms. Leaders there urged Baghdad to take swift and concrete action. They also stressed that continued silence would only encourage further aggression and weaken national unity.

Security officials warned that such incidents could escalate tensions and damage Iraq’s economy. They said clear policies are needed to prevent further violence. Lawmakers from the Kurdistan Region echoed these calls, demanding protection for critical infrastructure across all provinces.

Iraq investigates drone strikes not just as isolated events, but as part of a growing threat to national stability.

Parliament members stressed that enhanced intelligence sharing between Erbil and Baghdad remains vital to stopping future attacks.

In addition, officials proposed new surveillance systems near strategic energy zones to strengthen early warning efforts. Some MPs suggested that foreign involvement could not be ruled out. They asked for deeper investigations into the drones’ origin.

Iraq investigates drone strikes with urgency, aiming to protect vital infrastructure and preserve peace in the region. Continued cooperation between Baghdad and Erbil will be key to preventing future attacks and ensuring energy security.
