U.S. Warns Against Iran’s Destabilizing Influence in Iraq

Baghdad – The United States has strongly criticized Iran’s destabilizing influence in Iraq, renewing calls to protect Iraqi sovereignty. On Saturday, a U.S. State Department official emphasized this position in a statement to Shafaq News.

The official stated that the United States views Iran-backed militias as a threat to Iraq and the wider region. These groups continue to undermine regional peace and Iraq’s internal stability.

This warning comes at a tense moment. Though open fighting between Iran and Israel has eased, the risk of escalation remains. Regional players, including Iraq, face serious challenges from outside interference.

Iran’s Quds Force commander, Esmail Qaani, is reportedly in Baghdad. He is meeting with leaders of armed factions, including members of the Axis of Resistance. Sources suggest they may create a new operations room to coordinate future activity.

The Axis of Resistance includes various Iran-aligned groups across Iraq and beyond. These groups have frequently drawn criticism for acting outside state control. U.S. officials argue that their presence increases instability in Iraq.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani addressed these issues earlier this week. He warned that Iraq would respond firmly to any threat against its security. He also stressed that Iraq would not allow any group to undermine its sovereignty.

Meanwhile, U.S. officials remain focused on maintaining Iraq’s independence. They argue that reducing Iran’s destabilizing influence in Iraq is key to long-term regional stability.

Additionally, Washington continues to support Iraq’s government in strengthening state institutions. This includes helping Iraq combat armed militias and assert full control over its territory.

The U.S. position reflects deep concerns over Iraq becoming a battleground for proxy wars. With external actors active in the country, national security remains fragile.

To avoid future conflict, the U.S. urges all parties to respect Iraq’s independence. Preventing further escalation requires serious cooperation from both regional and international powers.

In conclusion, the U.S. maintains its firm opposition to Iran’s destabilizing influence in Iraq. Continued vigilance and support for Iraqi sovereignty remain a top priority for Washington.
