Innovation for Development and Sustainability Forum Kicks Off in Erbil

Innovation for Development and Sustainability took center stage in Erbil today, as the city hosted a major international forum. Under the patronage of the Minister of Education in the Kurdistan Regional Government, the event officially welcomed leading voices from Iraq and abroad. Moreover, the event was organized in collaboration with the Arjaa International Institute for Sustainable Environmental Research.

Specifically, the forum focused on “The Impact of Productivity and Efficiency in Public and Private Sector Institutions.” It successfully brought together decision-makers, researchers, and policy experts from across the region.

To begin the forum, Serwan Abdullah—the forum’s president and former Secretary-General of the Iraqi Parliament—gave the opening speech. During his remarks, he emphasized the importance of national talent and creative minds in shaping Iraq’s future. Despite the current geopolitical and economic challenges, he stated, “We believe Iraq’s future is built by its people.”

He continued, “This forum is more than just a meeting—it’s a new starting point. It supports innovation for development and sustainability, aiming to connect ideas with real-world solutions. It is also a call for greater administrative efficiency and national growth.”

Shilan Khalil, a representative of the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Education, highlighted the forum’s importance. She noted that both public and private sectors must prepare for rapid technological changes. “Artificial intelligence and digital transformation are shaping our future,” she said. “We must develop strategies to tackle challenges like climate change, financial instability, and resource shortages.”

She stressed that preparing the next generation is vital. “Future jobs will be different in nature and quality,” she added. “Skills development must become a top priority. We welcome all collaborations that help enhance student learning.”

Meanwhile, Azraa Mohammed from the Iraqi Federal Ministry of Finance spoke about workforce development. She explained that increasing productivity requires investing in human capital. “We are reforming hiring, promotion, and management systems,” she explained. “Training programs and partnerships with universities are key to better workplace performance.”

Rani Ibrahim, head of the organizing committee, expressed pride in hosting the forum in Erbil. He recalled hosting over 250 Arab government entities in previous events. “We hope this forum stands out with its strong themes and remarkable guests,” he said. He also thanked the Baghdad Ministry of Finance and the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Education for their support.

Innovation for development and sustainability remains the driving message behind this forum. With collaboration and focus, participants aim to push Iraq toward a more stable and prosperous future.
