Iraq Dismantles International Drug Trafficking Network

In a decisive move, Iraqi authorities dismantled an international drug crime operation that spanned several key regions in the country. The General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances spearheaded the mission, which targeted a sophisticated drug trafficking network.

The operation followed direct orders from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Interior Minister. Iraqi judicial authorities also supported the mission through a ruling issued by the Central Investigation Court in Rusafa. Together, they coordinated an intensive security and intelligence operation aimed at stopping the spread of illegal drugs.

The targeted network had operated across multiple provinces. It started in Baghdad and stretched through Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, Sulaymaniyah, and Erbil. The final destination for their drug operations was Nineveh. Authorities conducted raids that uncovered the full extent of this international drug crime operation.

During the operation, security forces arrested seven individuals involved in global drug trafficking activities. They also seized 90,000 Captagon pills and machinery used to prepare raw materials for crystal meth production. These machines played a key role in the processing and packaging of narcotics for wider distribution.

Officials placed the arrested suspects in pretrial detention. Legal action proceeded under Article 27, which deals specifically with international drug trafficking offenses. The judicial decision came from the specialized drug court in Rusafa, known for handling major narcotics cases.

This success marks a significant step forward in Iraq’s battle against drug crime. The Directorate emphasized its growing commitment to combating drug networks both locally and internationally. Officials stressed that the fight goes beyond national borders and now includes regional and global efforts.

Through collaboration, intelligence, and swift action, Iraq continues to push back against illegal narcotics. The mission demonstrates a broader strategy to dismantle any international drug crime operation threatening public safety. With continued vigilance, Iraq strengthens its resolve to protect society from the growing dangers of drug trafficking.
