Al-Sadr Condemns Attacks on Alawites in Syria

Baghdad, Iraq – Iraqi cleric Muqtada al-Sadr strongly condemned the recent violence against Alawites in Syria. Reports indicate that dozens have been killed in attacks targeting the sect. He urged the Syrian government to avoid sectarianism and violence.

In a statement on X, al-Sadr expressed deep sorrow over the situation. He accused Syria’s new leadership of using brutal force against Alawites, warning that such actions could lead to sectarian cleansing. He called for wisdom and restraint to protect Syria’s unity.

Al-Sadr also cautioned against external interference. He claimed that enemies, particularly Zionists and their allies, might exploit the crisis to destabilize Syria. He urged Alawites to act cautiously and avoid fueling further tensions.

Addressing the Syrian government, he warned that using excessive force could earn them the same reputation as terrorist groups. He stressed that violence would only harm the Syrian people. He also advised neighboring countries to avoid escalating their rhetoric, fearing it could worsen the situation.

Finally, al-Sadr compared Syria’s new rulers to Bashar al-Assad. He warned that if they followed the former president’s approach, it would lead to more suffering for the Syrian people. He emphasized that Syria’s future depended on rejecting violence and embracing national unity.
