Iraq Underscores Importance of US Across Multiple Sectors

Baghdad, Iraq- On Wednesday, Hisham Al-Alawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Planning Affairs, reaffirmed that Iraq’s foreign policy is rooted in the Iraqi constitution and the nation’s supreme national interests. He emphasized that the relationship with the United States is multifaceted, encompassing various key areas.

Al-Alawi explained that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs uses a classification system to prioritize countries and embassies based on political, economic, security, military, cultural, educational, and consular factors. He noted that the relationship with the U.S. is one of Iraq’s primary foreign policy priorities due to its significance in numerous fields.

He further elaborated that Iraq’s ties with the United States are diverse, spanning political, security, military, economic, commercial, and cultural dimensions, as well as educational exchanges. Additionally, the sizable Iraqi community in the U.S. contributes to the strength of the bilateral relationship.

Al-Alawi also emphasized that Iraq’s foreign policy, shaped post-2003, is grounded in constitutional principles and national values, with the primary focus on safeguarding Iraq’s interests and ensuring the protection of its citizens.
