Baghdad, Iraq- On Wednesday, Iraq’s Minister of Migration and Displacement, Evan Faeq Jabro, met with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representative in Iraq, Katharina Lump, to discuss providing support for returnees from displacement camps.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, Minister Jabro hosted Lump, along with her deputy Pauline Fresno and project development officer Maher Al-Akashi, at the ministry’s headquarters.
The meeting focused on ways to offer assistance to displaced individuals returning from the camps, ensuring they receive legal protection, and facilitating access to international grants and aid provided by the global community. They also discussed the situation of Syrian refugees in Iraq following changes in Syria.
Both parties emphasized the importance of enhancing and activating joint cooperation between the Ministry and the UNHCR, particularly regarding the exchange of information on returnees, including those coming from the Syrian Al-Hol camp to the Al-Amal Center.
