Kirkuk Airport Launches New Unit to Test and Hallmark Imported Gold

Iraq’s Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC) has officially inaugurated its fourth unit for testing and hallmarking precious metals, including imported gold, at Kirkuk International Airport. The opening ceremony, led by Dr. Fayadh Mohammed Abdul-Dulaimi, President of COSQC, was attended by a range of prominent officials, including representatives from airport customs and border management.

Dr. Abdul-Dulaimi emphasized the critical role the new unit will play in ensuring the quality and authenticity of gold entering the country. He also noted that the unit would create a comprehensive database to track importing companies and quantities, ensuring compliance with Iraq’s anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing laws, including Law No. 83 (1976) and Cabinet Decision No. 61 (2018).

Officials at Kirkuk International Airport underscored the significance of this new facility in strengthening the airport’s position as a regional trade hub. They highlighted that the unit would not only support international trade but also attract further investment to the region, boosting its economic standing and creating a more secure environment for cross-border trade.
