Iraqi Patriotic Shiite Movement Signals Possible Return to Politics

Baghdad – The Iraqi Patriotic Shiite Movement may re-enter Iraq’s political arena for the upcoming parliamentary elections on 11 November. A senior source within the movement revealed this possibility in a statement on Saturday.

Speaking to Shafaq News anonymously, the official highlighted a key message from the group’s leader Muqtada al-Sadr. Al-Sadr recently tweeted, “We elect the lamp of guidance, and board the ship of salvation.” According to the official, this message carries serious political implications. “This tweet marks a pivotal shift,” he stated. “It reflects renewed determination to address the Iraqi people’s growing concerns.”

In addition, The movement remains firmly against corruption, foreign meddling, and sectarian rule. These principles continue to guide their current political considerations. While a final decision has yet to be made, officials stress the need for a comprehensive reform plan.

“Our purpose isn’t power,” the source clarified. “We aim to build a strong national project that restores dignity to Iraqis.”

This new direction would prioritize national interests rather than internal political gain. Momentum appears to be building, and the movement is expected to announce its final stance soon.

The Iraqi Patriotic Shiite Movement played a dominant role in Iraq’s 2021 elections. At the time, al-Sadr’s bloc won 73 seats, emerging as the largest parliamentary force. However, his withdrawal in 2022 shocked many observers. That exit came after mounting frustrations over government corruption.

Now, political analysts are watching closely. A return could reshape the election narrative and impact current alliances. It may also force changes to election timing and strategy across Iraq’s political spectrum.

Many believe that al-Sadr’s return would mobilize his significant base once more. As one analyst noted, “Any move from the Iraqi Patriotic Shiite Movement could throw off the balance in parliament.”

With the election date drawing near, all eyes remain on the movement’s next move. The country may be on the brink of another political shift.
