Iraq Tourism Boom Lifts Revenues to Record $5.7 Billion

Iraq tourism boom continues to reshape the nation’s economy. Economic analyst Nabil al-Marsoumi revealed that tourism revenues jumped by 25 percent in 2024. He stated that profits increased from $4.6 billion in 2023 to $5.7 billion last year, showing remarkable financial progress.

Furthermore, Iraq now ranks seventh among Arab countries in tourism income. The United Arab Emirates leads with $57 billion, followed by Saudi Arabia at $41 billion. Egypt holds third with $15 billion, while Morocco, Qatar, and Jordan report $11.3 billion, $8.4 billion, and $7.2 billion respectively. Iraq’s rising figures show renewed confidence in its growing tourism sector.

President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid also highlighted Baghdad’s new recognition as the upcoming Arab tourism capital. During his meeting with Bandar bin Fahd Al Fahid, President of the Arab Tourism Organization, Rashid emphasized that Baghdad’s selection reflects its unique cultural identity. He noted that the capital’s heritage and history will attract new regional and international visitors.

Moreover, Rashid explained that improved stability and security have fueled Iraq tourism boom. Safer conditions have encouraged travelers to explore Iraq’s ancient landmarks, religious shrines, and vibrant cities. Visitors are returning to places once off-limits, bringing new life to the country’s cultural and economic landscape.

In addition, Iraq plans to open an Arab Tourist Academy in Baghdad. The project will train young professionals in hospitality, management, and tourism development. This step will boost workforce skills and help sustain long-term Iraq tourism boom.

Government agencies are also enhancing infrastructure to support the influx of tourists. New hotels, airports, and transportation routes are being developed nationwide. These improvements aim to make travel smoother and strengthen Iraq’s position as a top Middle Eastern destination.

In conclusion, the Iraq tourism boom has transformed the nation’s economic outlook. With continued investment, better infrastructure, and lasting peace, Iraq is ready to reclaim its place as one of the Arab world’s most captivating destinations.
