Iraq Arrests Nine Syrians for Promoting ISIS Online

Baghdad, Iraq- Iraqi security forces conducted operations in Najaf and Karbala, leading to the arrest of nine Syrians for promoting terrorist ideologies online. Among the detainees, two individuals are believed to have ties to Jabhat al-Nusra. In Karbala, additional arrests were made, including two Syrian refugees accused of spreading extremist content on social media.

Member of Parliament Diya Hindi Al-Hassanawi has urged Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to file a formal complaint with the UN Security Council over rising terrorist activity in Karbala. He emphasized the need for stricter legal measures and enhanced intelligence coordination to prevent further threats.

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior confirmed separate arrests of Syrian nationals accused of promoting terrorist groups on social media, underscoring the ongoing security operations to combat extremism in the country.
