Baghdad, Iraq – Security around the Syrian embassy in Baghdad has been reinforced following an attempted breach by six individuals. A security source revealed that additional forces were deployed to the area after the attempt to bypass the security perimeter.
Reinforcements were sent by the Law Enforcement Command to the Syrian embassy in the Mansour district of central Baghdad. This increased presence now includes five units stationed around the embassy as authorities brace for potential protests in the vicinity.
The source confirmed that the six individuals who attempted to cross the security barrier were arrested, but no further details regarding their identities or motives were provided. The situation remains tense, with Iraqi authorities closely monitoring the unfolding events.
Earlier in the day, another source indicated that security forces had been deployed around the embassy in anticipation of possible demonstrations, prompted by growing unrest in Syria’s coastal regions, particularly in Latakia and Tartus provinces, where violent clashes have resulted in numerous casualties.
The escalating situation in Syria has raised concerns in Iraq, particularly due to the ongoing conflict between remnants of the former regime and Syrian security forces. This violence, which continues to result in significant casualties, has heightened tensions, prompting Iraqi security forces to remain on high alert in anticipation of any potential threats near sensitive locations like the Syrian embassy.
