DNO begins oil production at Tawke and Faysh Khabur, strengthening its operations in the Kurdistan Region. The Norwegian company reported its second-quarter results today, confirming reduced output compared to the first quarter. However, the report highlighted new production activities at Tawke and later at Peshkabir.
The announcement followed the start of production earlier this month in Tawke. Shortly after, operations also expanded to Faysh Khabur. According to DNO, this development came after drone attacks in July temporarily disrupted facilities. Yet, the company restored operations and pressed ahead with its strategic projects.
In the second quarter of 2025, production from both Tawke and Peshkabir reached a combined average of 74,760 barrels per day. In contrast, during the first quarter, production stood at 82,081 barrels per day. Therefore, the figures showed a notable decrease between the two periods.
Breaking down the numbers, daily output at Tawke averaged 27,940 barrels, while Peshkabir produced 46,820 barrels. Despite the drop, DNO underlined its efforts to improve efficiency and repair damage from recent challenges. The company stressed that its long-term plans remain on track.
DNO explained that two main factors caused the decline in production. The first factor was drone strikes in July, which affected field facilities. The second was ongoing maintenance, carried out during the second quarter. Although production slowed, these efforts improved the reliability of operations.
Moreover, the company noted that the temporary suspension of activities stemmed partly from market conditions. During that time, DNO conducted several upgrades. Most of these upgrades, originally scheduled for late this year, were implemented earlier than expected.
Currently, DNO holds a 75 percent operating stake in the Tawke license. Its partner, Genel Energy, controls the remaining 25 percent. Together, they continue to manage one of Iraq’s most important oil projects.
Ultimately, DNO begins oil production at Tawke and Peshkabir while navigating obstacles. With renewed stability, the company seeks to enhance output, reinforce investor confidence, and strengthen its role in the Kurdistan oil sector.
