Bonn Forum Exposes Attacks on Journalists

Journalist protection global concern became a central focus during the Global Media Forum held in Bonn, Germany. The event addressed rising violence against media workers in occupied territories, especially those targeted by extremist settlers.

A high-level Iraqi delegation attended the forum. The team, led by Iraqi Media Network President Karim Hammadi, included overseas journalists and international bureau chiefs. Their participation highlighted Iraq’s commitment to international media cooperation.

The forum, hosted by Deutsche Welle (DW), drew strong attention from German government officials. Speakers condemned recent attacks on DW reporters in occupied zones. They also stressed the need to prevent future violations against journalists.

Importantly, participants explored how to activate existing agreements between Deutsche Welle and the Iraqi Media Network. These memoranda aim to enhance professional collaboration, improve safety, and promote shared values in journalism.

Journalist protection global concern was reflected in many panel discussions. Experts urged swift international action to safeguard reporters, particularly women who face unique dangers in conflict zones. Moreover, they emphasized offering training to reduce risk and build resilience.

Moreover, in line with this year’s theme, “Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges,” the forum encouraged participants to connect across cultures and overcome divisions. The message was clear: media professionals must work together to defend free speech and ensure access to reliable information.

Additionally, attendees explored how media partnerships could improve public awareness and counter disinformation. Iraqi representatives supported deeper ties with global media to amplify regional voices and truth-based storytelling.

At the event’s close, Deutsche Welle’s director addressed journalists directly. He urged them to continue their mission with courage and integrity. He described journalism as a difficult yet rewarding path that carries a noble purpose.

Journalist protection global concern will remain a driving issue for future cooperation. With forums like this, momentum continues to grow for building a safer, freer press worldwide.
