Major Contract Signed for Development of Kirkuk Oil Fields

The Ministry of Oil has officially signed a significant contract to develop four key oil fields in Kirkuk. This agreement, made with the British company BP, will focus on enhancing the production capacity of Kirkuk’s northern oil and gas fields. The contract is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening Iraq’s oil resources, significantly impacting the national economy.

Energy Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani al-Soud, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, spoke about the importance of this deal. He explained that this contract marks a milestone for the Ministry and the oil sector. The fields involved in this project include Karkuk’s famous Avana, Baba, Bai Hassan, Khabbaz, and Jambour, all part of the North Oil Company and North Gas Company operations. The minister highlighted the potential economic benefits of this agreement. He noted that it would directly contribute to increasing Iraq’s oil production. Moreover, it will enhance the country’s gas investments, boosting electricity generation in the process. These steps are essential for the improvement of Iraq’s energy sector and, by extension, its overall financial health.

Additionally, the deal will lead to the development and rehabilitation of the Kirkuk oil fields. This includes the modernization of gas facilities and expanding production capacity at the North Gas Company. As the agreement moves forward, significant improvements are expected to boost national production, and the focus will also be on gas extraction.Minister al-Soud expressed gratitude to all parties involved in the negotiations and execution of this contract. He acknowledged that after a period of stagnation, the agreement to revitalize the Kirkuk fields is a substantial achievement. The anticipated outcome of this venture is a considerable increase in national oil and gas production, which will undoubtedly strengthen Iraq’s fiscal position.

The signing of this contract, attended by senior officials from various sectors, marks a new chapter in Iraq’s oil industry. With development already underway, the country looks set to benefit from improved energy infrastructure, leading to more robust economic prospects for the future. The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including the Ministry’s Undersecretaries for Extraction, Gas, and Refining, as well as executives from various oil companies. This deal is expected to significantly impact Iraq’s energy sector.
