Al-Anbar Energy Development Accelerates as PM al-Sudani Pushes Akkas Gas Project Forward

Baghdad – The Al-Anbar energy development is entering a new phase as Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani ordered immediate acceleration of the Akkas gas field project. This move aims to supply power to al-Anbar’s 1,600-megawatt station. From the start, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of boosting energy infrastructure to close service gaps in the province. The key phrase Al-Anbar energy development reflects the government’s clear focus on this priority.

On Monday, al-Sudani made an unannounced visit to al-Anbar, where he met with tribal leaders at the guesthouse of Sheikh Hamid Turki al-Shawkah. Sheikh Hamid leads the Tribal Sheikhs Council and heads the Al-Bu Dhiyab tribe. During this meeting, the Prime Minister described al-Anbar as a province rich in potential. He confirmed that the federal government will fund both stalled and new projects to unlock that potential.

The PM’s media office stated that “Gas investment in al-Anbar remains one of the government’s top priorities.” Furthermore, al-Sudani ordered his team to expedite all work on the Akkas gas field. This project will help supply the region with much-needed electricity. Beyond energy, al-Sudani mentioned broader reforms, such as the Development Road project. He also spoke about tackling water scarcity issues in the province.

Despite these promises, the visit sparked criticism from some local officials. An anonymous source from the provincial council told Shafaq News that the visit ignored official protocols. The source pointed out that there was no provincial flag, and the trip was not treated as a formal event. This caused tensions between the federal government and local authorities.

Additionally, the source flagged al-Sudani’s meetings with Hamid al-Hayis and Arkan Altarmoz. Both men have been outspoken critics of the current local administration. The source suggested these meetings might signal a political shift aiming to sideline the elected council. This development could reshape al-Anbar’s political landscape in the months ahead.

In conclusion, Al-Anbar energy development is gaining significant momentum through federal backing. However, political tensions remain as local leaders react to the Prime Minister’s unexpected visit. The government’s push to enhance infrastructure reflects a broader ambition to stabilize and grow the province’s economy.
